Tenby International Primary Schools

A few weeks ago, when I went to sign in at the office, Mr. Lee Tiong Hui, Tenby CCA/Sport Officer, let me in some info which was a real encouragement to us. He told me that parents were very happy with the way we were handling the class and he praised us for doing a good job. I could swear I blushed that very moment (I always feel awkward especially with unexpected compliments) and was overjoyed at the same time.

The Tenby International Schools taekwondo club started off with a humble beginning of about 30 members in April 2009, the majority of whom were from the primary school. Initially, the primary and the secondary students were training together in the school auditorium.

Each semester the club saw a steady increase in membership, and was one of the CCA activities that was pulling in the crowd, according to Mr. Lee.  Our membership grew from 30 to 50, then from 50 to 70. He came one day during one of our training sessions to  observe and also to find out for himself what was so interesting in our training that was drawing the students in.

This semester, anticipating a good response, we decided to have separate training day for the primary and secondary. The training time for the primary remains on Thursday, while the secondary is on Friday. However, the students are still given the options to select any of the training day most convenient  to them.

Tenby International Schools Opening Ceremony

2009

Schools Opening Ceremony

A Memorable Day

The 3rd of June 2009 was a memorable day for Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park, and especially so for the school’s taekwondo club. It marked the day of the school’s opening ceremony and the club’s inaugural taekwondo demonstration.

Royal Audience

The taekwondo members of the school were notably excited by the request. After all, they had just started learning the martial art since the club was formed several months ago and this was the first time they were presented with the opportunity to display the skills they have learned so far, in front of the Crown Prince of Perak, HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah. They were ever more so enthusiastic to hone their skills and diligent in getting the moves right. Their instructor, Madam Yeap Swee Bee spent weeks guiding the children.

Efforts Paid Off

And their effort finally paid off. The club and members received lauds and praises after their maiden performance. The Tenby International School’s Director of Education, Mr Robert Lloyd was very impressed with the demonstration that he personally went up to Madam Yeap to compliment them on a fantastic performance.

A husband and wife team, Master Leong Yong Wah, 7th Dan black belt and Madam Yeap Swee Bee, 6th Dan black belt will be taking charge of the school’s pioneer Taekwondo Club.

As a kick start and introduction to the new club, a demonstration was organized at the school compound. A team of 15 Power Sport Taekwondo members took part in the event. They were greeted with overwhelming cheers and loud applause at the end of each item. The crowd, comprising of several hundred school pupils, were awe-struck by their performance.
