SMJK Kwang Hua, Klang by Lee Wei Pan

2010/2011

Taekwondo Club in SMJK Kwang Hua was established since 1974. Currently, we have more than 70 members and still growing. Our training is held every Saturday, in Dataran Kwang Hua from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Master Leong Yong Wah, is our instructor and assisted by Mr. Tan Kien Tat and Mr. Chong Zhi Hao. Kudos to the dedicated instructors, committees, and of course, not forgetting the members who play a vital role in keeping the Taekwondo club standing tall not just in the past and present, but hopefully for many more years to come. We train diligently every week and in each session we always strive to do our best. Beside the training, we have a lot of fun too in other activities. We are like one big happy family, sharing our precious and joyful moments together.

Taekwondo is a well known and popular Korean martial art . Through the training, we not only learn to protect ourselves but it also molds us to be a better person. At the end of the day, we find we are more confident and discipline.

I would like to express my gratitude to Master Leong Yong Wah for being a caring and responsible instructor. All are welcome to join us. Thank you.

Training with the Koreans

Power Sport Taekwondo played host on Saturday, 29th January 2011 to a team of 6 koreans from the World Taekwondo Peace Corps. It was a hectic one day event for our members especially for Mr. Yap Ping Hong and Mr. Tan Kien Tat. Early in the morning at 7.30 am both of them were in Bukit Jalil to pick the Koreans where they would be staying for a month. Their mission – to promote peace through taekwondo.

The first training session at 9.30 am was at SK Seksyen 9, Shah Alam. Here, the primary kids together with the secondary students had a fun time interacting with the koreans: learning as well as training with them. There were much laughter and giggling among the kids. They learn that taekwondo can be serious and fun too.

After the session, the koreans were given a treat to a sumptuous lunch at a well known chinese restaurant in Klang. Wanting to be hospitable, we had carefully planned for this, thinking that it would be a good idea to let them try something different. However, it was not to be so, much to our disappointment. The koreans did not really savor such food. Afraid to make such mistake again, this time we asked them where they would like to have their dinner. Korean barbecue was their reply!

After lunch, they had a brief rest at our home. Our next stop was at La Salle Klang, The students here had as much fun like the earlier session. It’s as if the children had never enjoyed so much in their training before! MGS was next, followed by Kwang Hua School, the last session.

It was already 6.45 pm when we finished. We were all exhausted. Without wasting much time, we took them to a Korean Restaurant in town where we had korean barbecue. It was really satisfying watching them relishing the food served that evening. Their facial expressions during that meal itself more than compensate for the afternoon blunder.

It was already late, 9.30 pm when Ping Hong and Kien Tat sent the koreans back to Bukit Jalil. We at Power Sport Taekwondo had much to thank them for their commitment and loyalty.

1st Instructor Course 2010

A Taekwondo Instructors’ Course was recently held at SMKJ Kwang Hua, Klang. Organized by Power Sport Taekwondo Academy, the course had attracted as many as 90 participants that filled the open arena on the 27th June 2010.

The course, aimed for black belt students and current instructors was to strengthen the participants’ basics and to nurture up and coming instructors. “Apart from teaching them the proper basics, my other objectives in organizing this course is to expose them to the role and responsibilities of an instructor”, said Mr. Leong Yong Wah, technical director for the group.

The course covered many aspects of teaching the martial art, including role model, responsibilities of an instructor, limbering and warming up, basic stances and executions, kicks and taegeuk. The one day course was conducted in detail to ensure nothing was left out. Participants were also divided into groups for trial runs of instructing and conducting taekwondo classes.

The course was conducted by Mr. Leong Yong Wah and his wife Mdm Yeap Swee Bee. Both of them had been in this business for more than 30 years. Mr. Eric Chong, a very senior instructor himself assisted them in the course. Overall the course was a great success, judging by the feedback from the participants themselves. Some even suggested that the course be organized again but for a longer period such as 3 day 2 nights.

SMK Seksyen 9, Shah Alam by Khadijah bt. Zulkifli

2010

It has been more than a decade since the Tae Kwon Do Club was formed in our school. What wonderful and fulfilling years they had been. Throughout those years, many of our members had not only excelled in their studies, but achieved their dream ambitions too. Finding their self identity is another.

I would say that it’s through Tae Kwon Do, that we had gained much self confidence and perseverance in whatever we do in our daily lives. Our lives have also become more focused because of the discipline instilled in us.

Therefore, on behalf of the Seksyen 9 members, I would like to thank Master Leong Yong Wah for the love and guidance that he had given us. It’s our hope that Taekwondo will be in our school curriculum for many more years to come seeing that it had done so much for us.
